THE FOUNDER OF THE
BROSSARD EVANGELISTIC CENTRE

The pages of this church’s history could not be written without the name of its founder Rev. St Clair Knights. Certainly this church is a projection of this great man’s dream. It is unquestionable that it reflected his dedication to the work of God, his passion for souls and his determination to succeed when tasks became difficult. He commanded your attention in the way he went about implementing and spearheading programmes at both a spiritual and humanitarian level. He felt that the duty of the church is to help fulfill the needs of the people.

Rev. St. Clair Knights was born on November 30, 1926 to Mr. and Mrs. Milton Knights, in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. He was one of seven children in his family.

At age sixteen he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour and at age 18 he was one of the first students to enter the three year program of the West Indian School of Theology. During this time he met his wife then known as Sheila Russell.

Rev. Knights took his first Ministerial charge at age 25 as pastor of the San Juan Pentecostal Church in Port of Spain. During his ministry in Trinidad, he served as Presbyter and as Assistant General Superintendent of The Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies of Northern Trinidad. A builder indeed was he; he was instrumental in building seven churches while in ministry there.

In 1965 he relocated his family to Canada and accepted the challenge of taking care of West Indian Christian folk.

During his 40 years of ministry he built two churches, The Bible Way Pentecostal Church and the Brossard Evangelistic Centre, he developed and managed two daycare Centers and built a home for the aged. Apart from laboring in the gospel, he did a lot in the field of Humanitarianism. He loved people in spite of their status, helped the needy, fed the hungry.

He never believed in doing it alone, he encouraged you to use your skills and abilities. His ministry among his people was the gateway to many vibrant ministries today. Rev. Knights went to be with the Lord on May 31st. 2001.

❝  Lives of great men all remind us
We must make our lives sublime
And departing leave behind us
Footprints in the sands of time ❞

THE HISTORY OF THE BROSSARD EVANGELISTIC CENTRE AFFILIATED WITH THE PENTECOSTAL ASSEMBLIES OF CANADA THE FORMATIVE YEARS

The place we now call the Brossard Evangelistic Centre owes its genesis to the unceasing labor of the late Rev. St. Clair Knights and a team of dedicated Christian workers.

Although Pastor of the Bible Way Pentecostal Church in Montreal, Québec, Rev. Knights had a vision to build a place of worship in Brossard. It all started when Mr. & Mrs. Malcolm Carter one of the families of the church, bought a home in St. Hubert, Québec and began a house to house visitation. Their effort resulted in 72 new children added to the Bible Way Sunday school.

After seven years of busing families to Montreal His prayers for a new church on the South shore became a reality on April 12th. 1981. The Brossard Evangelistic Centre is a reflection of a man motivated by his dedi- cation to the work of God and his passion for souls.

Now pastor of two churches, and working with one assistant the late Pastor Winfield Hope, Rev. Knights appointed four young men to serve as assistant pastors to share the work load .Pastoral duties and responsibilities were shared among Jeffrey Bryan, Errol Chase, Thomas Fergus and Gennis Roberts.

Pastor Fergus and Pastor Roberts both members of the Brossard assembly must be commended for their unrelenting and untiring work. Sharing also in the life of the Brossard Evangelistic Centre

In the area of teaching were Pastor Jeffrey Bryan and Pastor Shirley Cambridge.

In the year 1985 Pastor Knights was forced to make a great decision. Through much prayer and great wis- dom, he gave up leadership at Bible Way and concentrated his energies into the work at Brossard. During those years we saw this work go from strength to strength.

BRIDGING THE GAP

Towards the end of 1992 because of failing health, Pastor Knights was unable to perform his duty in giving leadership to the church. The responsibility for heading the administration was then assumed by the District. This non-resident body needed a team to manage the local affairs of the church, This responsibility was delegated to the Steering Committee which comprised of Ruth Ashby, Malcolm Carter Richard Charles, Edmund Chateram, Thomas Fergus, and Gennis Roberts.

The next year and a half proved to be the most difficult time in the history of Brossard to date. However, there were those who were committed to keep the torch burning. The heritage handed down by men and women who met for prayer and fasting over the years contributed significantly to our steadfastness and determination to keep the faith. We practiced that which we believed and taught and saw our prayers answered.

Join us on Sundays as Pastor Richmond Liodan delivers the message of God.
